Basic Quality Checks for Mechanical and Hardware Parts

Basic quality checks are important for buyers of CNC machined parts, machinery spare parts, faucet hardware, plumbing fittings and other custom metal components. For B2B sourcing, quality control should not only check the finished product appearance, but also confirm whether the parts match drawings, samples, material requirements and application needs.

1. Dimension Inspection

Dimension checking is the first step for most custom mechanical parts. Key dimensions, hole positions, thread size, outside diameter, inside diameter, length, thickness and assembly surfaces should be checked according to the drawing or confirmed sample.

For CNC turned parts, shafts, sleeves, bushings and spacers, important round features and fitting dimensions should receive extra attention. For CNC milled parts, flatness, hole position and mounting surfaces are often important for assembly.

2. Material Confirmation

Before production, the buyer and supplier should confirm the required material grade. Common options include stainless steel, aluminum, brass, carbon steel, alloy steel and engineering plastics. If the material affects strength, corrosion resistance or appearance, it should be clearly confirmed before quotation.

3. Thread and Surface Check

Threaded parts, adapters, fittings and valve-related components should be checked for thread type, pitch, fit and burrs. Surface finish should also be reviewed, including polishing, brushing, passivation, plating, anodizing, bead blasting or other required treatments.

4. Appearance and Deburring

Appearance checking helps avoid obvious scratches, sharp burrs, dents, deformation, rust, stains or poor finishing. For export orders, clean appearance and safe edges are important because buyers often use these parts directly in assembly, repair or resale.

5. Packaging and Pre-Shipment Communication

Packaging should protect the parts during international transportation. Small machined parts may need individual bags, foam, carton separation or moisture protection. Before shipment, photos, inspection notes and packing details can help both sides reduce misunderstanding.
