What Information Should Be Confirmed Before OEM/ODM Production

Before OEM/ODM production starts, buyers and suppliers should confirm the key technical and commercial details in writing. Clear confirmation can reduce repeated communication, avoid wrong production direction and improve quotation accuracy.

1. Drawings, Samples or Product Photos

The most helpful information is a complete 2D drawing, 3D model or physical sample. If drawings are not available, clear photos with key dimensions, application details and material requirements can also help the supplier review the project.

2. Material and Surface Treatment

Material grade should be confirmed before production, such as stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, carbon steel, alloy steel or plastic. Surface treatment should also be stated clearly, including polishing, brushing, plating, anodizing, passivation, painting, powder coating or no surface treatment.

3. Quantity and Production Stage

MOQ, prototype quantity, sample quantity and batch order quantity affect pricing and production method. A project may need a small sample run first, then batch production after fit, appearance and function are confirmed.

4. Tolerance and Functional Requirements

Not every dimension needs tight tolerance. Buyers should mark important dimensions, assembly surfaces, thread areas, sealing areas and load-bearing areas. This helps the supplier focus on the real function of the part and avoid unnecessary cost.

5. Packaging, Inspection and Delivery

For export orders, packaging method, labeling, destination country, delivery time and inspection requirements should be confirmed before shipment. If the part will be assembled into another product, the packaging should protect key surfaces and avoid deformation.
