For custom CNC machined parts, clear drawings and complete project information help the supplier understand the required material, dimensions, tolerance, surface finish, quantity and application. Better information usually leads to faster quotation and fewer production mistakes.
1. Recommended Drawing Files
For quotation, buyers can send PDF drawings, DWG, DXF, STEP, STP, IGS, IGES or STL files. PDF drawings are useful for checking dimensions and tolerance, while 3D files are helpful for reviewing structure, machining difficulty and assembly details.
2. What to Mark on the Drawing
The drawing should show material, key dimensions, tolerance, thread requirements, surface treatment, quantity and any important functional areas. If a dimension is important for assembly or sealing, it should be marked clearly.
3. What to Do If No Drawing Is Available
If the buyer only has a sample part, clear photos can be sent first. Photos should show the front, back, side, holes, threads and important details. It is also helpful to include rough dimensions with a ruler or caliper.
